http://telepathy.com/ is the apparent owner of WP.org and the registration is set to expire this month. Since Automattic acquired WP.com earlier this year from Yahoo!, this might be a chance to monopolize their brand online. Hopefully this post won’t notify them (Telepathy) and make them renew for a million years or want a zillion dollars for the domain. If so, I apologize in advance, Matt.

Right now I’m typing in my Rumor’s mobile web browser. apparently it’s just fine with php. I guess that shouldn’t be surprising, since it’s a server-side language. But browsers are still a part of the process.
It’s interesting how different mobile sites look, both from each other and from their PC-housed brethren. Next time I look at a site that maintains it’s identity on the mobile web, I’ll check how they did it. It could be CSS, or presentational HTML. With the holding popularity of mobile devices that are not the Apple iPhone, designers and developers need to remember that the content comes first.

Great Joke from Jumbo Joke
Just today at work we had a conversation about this, and we did do the math. Our conclusion: instead of giving away converter boxes for the switch to digital TV signals, just give everyone a 50-inch LCD TV!
*Edit* Apparently a 60-inch TV is more appropriate, High Definition, too, per the following article (photo 7):

Browser Statistics
Click the link to see interesting table of approximated browser market share by month.
Interestingly enough, the w3schools site has poorly styled tables. At least they don’t use a table-based layout. {shudder}
Does anyone with more programming know-how than me want to write some sort of script (or something) that would pull this information into a widget?

Sheldon: The Daily Comic Strip by Dave Kellett
I started reading Sheldon last week after a number of webcomics linked to Mr. Kellett’s site in their recommendation sections, and it having a familiar name. This one, from five years ago, reminds me of a current phenomenon on the internet, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Although you may not consider it Sci-Fi, I think it’s close enough to be funny (at least to me). What do you think?

Last week I bought a new bike. Considering I haven’t ridden one in close to eight years, this is a big deal to me. The last bike I rode wasn’t even mine. The store was really helpful, finding me something in my price range, the right size frame, and letting me test drive it before I bought it. When I came back the next day — they needed a day to go over the bike and make sure it was in top condition — the owner (?) taught me how to ride the bike. He showed me how to properly mount and dismount, reminded me how brakes work, and fit my helmet for me — which was great since it had buckles and dials for all the straps. I don’t think I’ve ever properly gotten on a bike before last week; it was so much easier! For those who are unenlightened, here’s how:
- straddle your bike
- place one foot on its pedal
- put all your weight on that foot while giving a push
- find your balance and sit down
- finally put your other foot on the other pedal
If anyone knows a different way of describing this, please help me out — I had a demonstration.

Devil’s Panties - Friday, August 22, 2008
This strip is what happened to me the last time I went to the dentist. I hate Novacaine, the aftereffects and the injection, so I was thrilled with the option.

These past few months have been incredibly busy for me, so no updates. Tonight’s post is dedicated to my physical activity of the week. I’ve been climbing stairs at work instead of taking the elevator whenever possible, which is usually about ten flights a day. Last night was a volleyball outing. We were scheduled to play three games, but no one was very clear on the format for the tournament, so by the time I wanted to leave I’d only been in one. First game of ‘beach’ volleyball ever, and the first game in seven years otherwise. It didn’t suck, but I need to get over my fear of the ball and other players. Teams or groups, fine, but team sports? Not my strong suit.
As for today, I built a few pieces of furniture for my new apartment. It was more stretching than anything. The hard work came from hauling the boxes for the furniture around the store, into my car, out of my car, and into my apartment. Thank God there are only two steps. I used a Razor scooter to move the desk set. It was labeled “TeamLift.” That means: not only will you strain your legs and back, but probably break a few bones as well.
Just before my excursion (and exertions), I dug out my pedometer from the Live Well Challenge hosted by Wegmans at RIT. Not counting the morning (since I wasn’t wearing it), I took 6,436 steps today. My goal is to get 5,000 minimum per day, with an ABCD goal of 10,000 per day. Huzzah for goals.
[Note to self: Renn faires are only around ‘til September; go soon!]

9:37pm, today: My “new” Dinkie Dino, Ricky, hatched. He was revived from a decade-long hibernation. I just purchased a replacement Dino because I thought my mom had thrown my old one away. Oops! Luckily, it was relatively cheap. I might sell it later. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s also known as a Rakuraku Dinokun. It’s a Tamagotchi-esque virtual pet that has sound you can turn off. To see some of the cuteness, check out this page: Dave’s Rakuraku Dinokun page. Here’s a photo of the case and it’s instructions: Tamenagerie Dinkie Dino.
As an effort to write more in this blog, I decided to keep a diary about my Dinkie Dino. As I will be moving halfway across the country soon, I figured it would be a good idea to bring a familiar, um, face with me. Plus virtual pets are cheaper and easier to take care of than living pets.
I hope poor Ricky doesn’t die, since his bedtime is 9pm but he hatched after then, so he went to bed starving. Hopefully he won’t wake up dead. Otherwise you’ll be reading about Dannyboy.

McDonald’s, others pull tomatoes over salmonella
I just saw Return of the Killer Tomatoes (I never saw the original), when I remembered seeing signs about the Tomato ban at a Burger King I passed. Coincidence? I think so!
Also, George Clooney + 80’s hair = bad idea.
